Sue no Sato Tamba Traditional Craft Park

Learn about Tambayaki, pottery from one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns

Tachikui Sue no Sato Tamba Traditional Craft Park, located in Tamba-Sasayama City in Hyogo Prefecture, is a comprehensive facility where you can experience all of the charms of Tambayaki, counted as one of the six ancient kilns of Japan. Approximately 50 potteries are grouped together in this pottery lane, where you can find richly individual pieces made in earnest by each of the potters. Enjoy the diverse forms of Tambayaki, from traditional utsuwa bowls to modern designs adapted for contemporary living.

In the pottery classroom, you can experience the joy of actually turning a potter’s wheel yourself and adding decoration to create pottery. Why not make an original, one-of-a-kind piece as a memory of your trip?

You can also view the climbing kilns that supported the history of tambayaki pottery from close up. See, touch, and experience the profound world of Tambayaki in this location.
