Kannabe Highlands

Paragliding, skiing and camping: children and adults alike can have fun year-round in this resort area!

The Kannabe Highlands, surrounded by beautiful mountains, lie at an elevation of 350 meters. In this area blessed by nature, where the climate is cool even in the summer, you can enjoy sports such as paragliding, golf, tennis, skiing, and snowboarding in a vast natural world.

Thanks to the large size of the area, even beginners can use the paragliders with peace of mind, and receive careful guidance from instructors. The feeling of “flying” through the stunning natural world is extraordinary—and only something that people who experience it can really appreciate. Anyone can get involved, from children to adults, so if you’re interested you should definitely take on the challenge.

The Kannabe Highlands has three ski areas. There’s “Up Kannabe,” perfect for a child’s debut in the snow, Oku Kan Snow Park, where you can enjoy an abundant variety of courses, and Manba, which beginners can use with peace of mind. Everyone from beginners and veterans can enjoy skiing and snowboarding in ski areas suited to them.

And the Kannabe Highlands doesn’t just appeal with sports alone! There are plenty of activities that enable you to feel its natural world.

In spring, you can harvest edible wild plants and fish for rainbow trout. In summer, you can do camping and barbeque. In the fall, you can walk around the brightly colored leaves and waterfalls. And in winter you’ll find beautiful snowscapes. One of the charms of the Kannabe Highlands is that you can experience the beauty of Japan’s four seasons through the year.

There are plenty of accommodation facilities in the area—not just hotels and ryokan inns but also minshuku guest houses and lodges. Choose an accommodation facility that suits your travel plans, perhaps close to a ski area or close to the hot springs.

People who are planning a day trip to the highlands can use only the hot springs or only the eateries. The roadside station Michi-no-Eki Kannabe Kogen is close by, offering vegetables directly from farmers, a specialty shop, and an eatery. At the restaurant, you can enjoy delicious local gourmet dishes made using Tsukiakari rice from Kannabe, so make sure you drop in.
