Keino Matsubara Beach

An area that's definitely worth a visit: one of Awaji Island's best picturesque beaches and the "Proposal Road"

Keino Matsubara Beach extends along the west coast of Awaji Island. It is an expanse of beautiful scenery, with a white sandy beach and a pine forest of around 50,000 trees stretching approximately 2.5 km.

It is famous as a location used in movies, period dramas, and magazines, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll while looking at the gentle, shallow waters, smelling the scent of the pines, and feeling the pleasant sea breezes.

Keino Matsubara Beach’s greatest attraction is the magical sunset over the Seto Inland Sea. Selected as one of Japan’s best 100 sunsets, the sight of the sky and sea dyed orange and pink is indescribably stunning.

Keino Matsubara is also famous as a sacred place for lovers; here, you’ll find the “Proposal Road” where people swear eternal love. “What is the Proposal Road?”, you may wonder. This is a road unique to Minamiawaji City, one of Japan’s leading rooftile production areas, along which people hang roof tiles on which they have carved words of affection and their memories as a couple. The people who made these tiles did so as a special memento, so seeing them as you walk along the road will surely evoke a feeling of gentle happiness.

After having your fill of the wonderful view, why not spend some moments of luxury indulging in delicious food and hot springs? Eateries where you can savor Awaji Island’s vaunted fresh seafood are dotted around the area, so you can enjoy mouth-watering Awaji dishes together with the scenery.

In Keino Matsubara So, located near the park, you can take a dip in an outdoor bath filled with the famous waters of Uzushio Onsen (hot springs). This is a superb outdoor bath with views of the beautiful scenery.

Stunning white sands, superb sunsets, and fragrant pine trees. Why not visit Keino Matsubara Beach and fill your heart with nature?
