Ibonoito Museum Somen-no-Sato
The home of somen noodles, where hand-stretching techniques and history come together
Ibonoito Somen is a type of somen noodle that offers a quintessential taste of summer in Japan. You can gain an in-depth experience of its traditions and deliciousness at the Ibonoito Museum Somen-no-Sato. The museum houses exhibitions on the origins of Ibonoito, production techniques, and its history, and visitors can also view the production process through glass windows. You mustn’t miss the demonstration area, where you can see craftmanship up close as skilled craftspeople stretch 50-centimeter somen noodles to 160 centimeters. After looking around, you can try the freshly made somen in the tasting area, free of charge.
We recommend eating lunch in the attached Restaurant Iori. There’s a variety of options, including cold somen, hot somen, and a menu for children, so you can enjoy this destination with your family. The silky texture and rich aroma of wheat may even change your idea of somen noodles! Make sure you check out the somen nagashi (somen flume), held for a limited time only!
The souvenir area offers an array of choices, including both Ibonoito products and local specialty products. Why not satisfy your senses at Somen-no-Sato, full of history, tradition, and delicious food?
