Matogata Beach & Clam Digging Spot

Matogata in Himeji City is a spot of around 500 meters of white sandy coastline and an attractive shallow sea. Even small children can play here without concern, making it a location to enjoy with the family.
Clam digging season starts in April and finishes in June. You can harvest lots of asari, hamaguri, and mategai clams and take home all that you harvest! Equipment is available for rent at a fee, so we recommend you bring as much as possible with you.
After the clam digging season is over, the beach is open for sea swimming between July and August. Make the most of summer in some of Kansai’s best shallow waters, with a beautiful stretch of white sand. There are plenty of facilities, including showers, changing rooms, rest areas, and shops, and even a large car park.
It's not just clam digging and swimming in the sea—you can enjoy barbeques and autocamping here too, making it a perfect destination for a day full of fun.
