Fukimodoshi no Sato

A hands-on facility where you can rediscover the fun of "fukimodoshi," one of Japan's traditional toys

“What is a fukimodoshi?”, you may wonder.

This is a traditional toy that unrolls and extends when you put it to your lips and blow, then coils right back up. It’s familiar to people in different areas of Japan under different names, such as makitori, makibue, piropiro-fue, piihyara-fue, and hebi-fue. Perhaps you’ve blown one yourself, once?

At Fukimodoshi no Sato, you can join in a fukimodoshi-making experience with the careful instruction of a craftsperson. The process may be simple, but the sense of accomplishment when you blow the fukimodoshi that you have made and delight in the way it extends will surely put a smile on your face.

You can also see the machines that process the paper used for the fukimodoshi in this facility, enjoy the “piropiro” claw machine and a baseball game, and view exclusive and unique fukimodoshi, unavailable for sale. The shop sells plenty of interesting original fukimodoshi—we recommend getting one as a memory or souvenir of your trip.

Make sure you visit Fukimodoshi no Sato, a secret base for a “piropiro” experience where laughter and nostalgia come flooding back.
