| [Suma Aqualife Park] |
| The refreshing sea breeze blows through Suma beach, and a
beautiful belt of white sand follows the shoreline. Various facilities stand along
the coast, among which is Suma Aqualife Park one of the largest in Japan, and
no doubt the most popular. The park has the world's first wave-producing
aquarium, exhibits using high technologies, dolphin shows, etc. Amazon Pavilion
with the first tube-type tunnel aquarium shows creatures of the Amazon area. Suma
Detached Palace Park has field athletic facilities, a cascade reminiscent of the
courtyard of Versailles Palace, and a botanical garden. |

| [Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Ijokaku)] |
 |
This Memorial Hall is the only museum in Japan
that exhibits the life of Sun Yat-sen (1866 - 1925), the great Chinese revolutionary
leader, politician and thinker. The building was first opened to the public
in November 1984. This Building was originally built by Wu Jintang (1855 - 1926),
a wealthy Chinese merchant who was active in Kobe, as his villa, "Shokai-So."
In spring 1915, he added the "Ijokaku", an octagonal three storied
building on the east side of the villa. Since it looked like a six-sided
structure from the outside, it has been called "Rokkaku-do (six-sided hall)
in Maiko" by the local people. Sun Yat-sen first visited the Shokai-So on
March 14th, 1913 when interested business circles and Chinese people in Kobe held
a welcome luncheon party for him. Later, in September 1982, this building was
donated to Hyogo Prefecture by the Kobe Chinese Association who owned it at that
time. After being repaired, this building was opened to the public as the
"Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall" on November 12th, 1984, Sun Yat-sen's birthday.
In December 1993, the building was designated as "Hyogo Prefecture
Important Cultural Assets." In March 1994, due to the construction
of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, it was taken apart and moved to its present location,
200 meters southwest of where it used to be. The restoration was completed
in April 2000. In November 2001, Ijokaku was designated as a national important
cultural asset. This memorial hall primarily explains the relationship between
Sun Yat-sen and Kobe, and also exhibits the life of Wu Chin T'ang and the transition
of Ijokaku.

| [Bridge Exhibition Center] |
 |
The main island of Honshu and the smaller island
of Shikoku were finally directly linked by the three components of the Honshu-Shikoku
Bridge: the Seto Ohashi Bridge (completed in 1988), the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (1998)
and the Shimanami Kaido Highway (1999).
Construction was challenged by numerous natural obstacles including wind, earthquakes,
strong tidal currents and the complex geology of the seabed, as well as avioding
any disruption to the safe and smooth flow of sea traffic. These challenges
were met through creativity and innovative technologies, leading to the successful
completion of the project some 40 years after initial surveys began. This Bridge
Exhibition Center introduces the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the world's longest suspension
bridge and the centerpiece of the project. The Center serves as a science
museum explaining the state-of-the-art technology used in the Honshu-Shikoku bridges
in an easy-to-understand manner.
